My Word for 2016

Today’s topic is our focus or word for 2016. I’ve never chosen a word of the year before, but I really love the concept. I think it’ so much more fulfilling to choose a focus rather than make a resolution or come up with a set of loosely related goals, even though both approaches can be very productive and provide direction for your year.

Be Bold 2016 - My Word of the Year - Gina Alyse

Planning a word for the year was something new to me, which made me question how someone comes up with a focus? How do we arrive at one single concept that drives 365 days? I think it’s has a lot to do with reflection and a lot to do with listening, listening to ourselves and to others. I took a couple days and spent some time brainstorming and finding a focus through writing and going by feel. It’s especially hard for the writer in me to pick just one little word. This was a good lesson in decision making. Even if my word isn’t perfect or right, I will get something out of it—and it’s probably exactly what I need.

My word for 2016 is is BRIGHT.

Be Bold 2016 - My Word of the Year - Gina Alyse
Bright to me means encouragement. It means full of light. It means bright ideas. It means creating positive, healthy heart habits. It is full of good vibes. More so, it mean being open and confident to grow, to struggle, to learn and to be myself and live in step with my purpose.

I want this year to be characterized by a couple things:

  • More sunshine, less clutter
  • Small-moment living for the soul
  • Rhythmic exercises for creative and bright living

I will seek to live a brighter life—

  • By listening and walking more in sync with my creator
  • By stepping out of fear when it comes to my career, creative pursuits and communities
  • By paying more attention to others
  • By trying new things, taking leaps
  • Being comfortable and a little uncomfortable in my season of life

Being bright is all about living by the sun and the son. The verse I have on my heart for 2016 is Psalm 51:10: “Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit.”

Bright means pure and steadfast. I’m excited to see how this focus and vision guides and shapes my year and the goals I set along the way. I will go more into detail about my goals in the next couple weeks with the rest of the #BeBold2016 community.
