I love getting the inside scoop on any creative projects. As a writer, blogger and designer, I love tweaking my creative process and finding what works for me. But hearing this about others fuels me so much too.
Because of this, I was so excited when Katie from Twin Stripe tagged me in a blog tour that lets us connect with bloggers and talk about the ins and outs of our writing process. After going to the North Carolina Blogger Network Mini Conference last Thursday, I have been so inspired by new things and I can’t wait to share them with you all. I am also going to get coffee with Katie next week too! So much blog love in real life!
My Writing & Creative Process
1. What am I working on?
Right now, I have so many projects, ideas, assignments, and blog posts in mind. I have been truly feeling the creativity and the opportunities all around me, and it’s been translating into so many projects this semester. In school, I have a travel writing class where we will write stories about North Carolina culture and travel around the state to interview people, review restaurants and capture experiences (and this actually counts toward my minor!). In my organizations on campus, I am designing and coding two websites and coming up with the creative style for the yearbook. In blogland, I have a lot of post ideas involving design, travel DIYs, college life, blogging and more! It’s all a little overwhelming when I think about it all, but I am so pumped!
2. How does my work differ from others of its type/genre?
I love making my writing and the visuals on my blog organic and fresh. I love making my writing purposeful, easy to relate to and useful. Ultimately, I like having a “lifestyle” blog, but I try to define my topics (creativity/design, adventure/travel, and college) to reflect the core of my “Creative Callings” vision. In the end, my goal is original content that I believe in and that forms a community.
3. Why do I write what I do?
Ultimately, I write to inspire creativity and adventure in the hearts of my readers. I write to start conversations over the beauty in the world and to fuel the aspirations and dreams of anyone seeking a higher purpose. I believe that life is found in the little things and the fun, beautiful things, so I love writing about what makes me come alive even if it’s a small detail like a quote, a goal, a flower or font.
4. How does your writing process work?
Over the years, I’ve discovered I’m a very thorough writer and learner. This means my writing process starts with research and reading to inspire me creatively. Lately, I’ve been writing out thoughts, lists and ideas into one small notebook and turning them into blog posts when I can. I sometimes also start fresh online, just typing my thoughts away. Also, I cannot not include the fact that my process also involves the actual DIY or the actual adventure in real life, photographing and editing. I just love it when it all comes together from so many different pieces.
I asked a couple ladies to share their thoughts about blogging and writing. Be sure to check out their blogs and their upcoming posts soon!
Jessica from Seeking Individuality: I adore Jessica’s blog and have had the privilege to get to know her over the summer through blogging. I love that she blogs about snippets from her life as a new college student as well as shares some posts about making your blog better with design tutorials!
Brittany from The Kardia: I just met Brittany a little bit ago and I am so glad to feature her on my sidebar! Her lifestyle blog has me inspired through words, design and inspiration for life. I loved that she shared about her September goals and favorite fonts.
I can’t wait to read these ladies’ posts about blogging!
And now, it’s on to you: what is your creative process like? How to you seek to inspire creativity throughout your day?
