I spent the few weekend of October soaking up some sunshine, relaxing in 80-degree weather, climbing trees and just living and reflecting with amazing people.
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship has a beach retreat every year, and this year we retreated to Fort Caswell in Oak Island, N.C. This conference and retreat center is based around a fort used during the Civil War. And it’s located right on the beach. So, we got a dose of history and a dose of waves all in one weekend.
On Saturday, our teams played a lot of beach games. It was superhero-themed and my team was Thor. We also got points for spirit and costumes. So for our inexpensive hammers for Thor, we had plungers. That was a random highlight from the trip. It’s all in the details.
After the games, we explored the forts and relaxed in the water. The weather was absolutely perfect; it was such a blessing.
For the majority of the weekend, we listened to an awesome speaker and had discussions surrounding Genesis, Jesus and so many other awesome things about our Lord and our lives. Some of his words just stuck out to me, and I couldn’t write quickly enough. But these are the words I have to keep with me:
“One hundred percent of what I do and what I have is because Jesus rose.”
“God doesn’t tell us to do anything that he hasn’t already done.”
I’m so thankful for this weekend and the chance to breathe and reflect. While I’m not sure what this semester holds for me or what I’m doing, I have traditions to hold on to, people and places to love and a Lord who has it all figured out even if I don’t.
