It’s week two of the Summer of Something New Blog Challenge, hosted by Southern Belle in Training! A few bloggers are linking up to share something new they tried during that week, whether it’s a recipe, craft, activity or attitude! Check out Forever Convinced, The Shore Life According to M, Miss ALK, and ell-oh-v-ee. Today, I’m going to be sharing a new book I’m currently reading.
It’s called Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman’s Soul by John & Stasi Eldredge. This is what part of the back of the book says:
“The message of “Captivating” is this: Your heart matters more than anything else in all creation. The desires you had as a little girl and the longings you still feel are telling you of the life God created you to live. He offers to rescue your heart and release you to live as a fully alive and feminine woman. A woman who is truly captivating.”
I’m about a quarter of the way through this book, so I can’t give it a full review. But I’ve heard great things about it from a few friends from school.
I wanted to really step out of my typical genre of fiction books and start reading some more inspirational, even powerful books that would give me different perspectives on life. I’ve decided to start reading more Christian Living books, as that’s what the section at Books-A-Million is called. I’m really liking Captivating now. And I wanted to share with you guys one of my favorite parts of it so far.
I can’t even begin to count how many times that I wouldn’t open up and be vulnerable . I can’t begin to count the times I chose my needs over spending time with others and loving others. This quote put all that in perspective for me.
As women, we are instantly called to be relational, vulnerable human beings, releasing our desire for control and having faith in a wonderful God who provides for us.
With that said, have you all read any good books lately? I love reading many types of books, but I’m so glad that I tried reading something new this summer. It takes me longer to read books other than fiction unless I’m really hooked, but I like it this way. I can relax, take my time and soak in every word that I see on the page.
I hope you all had a fabulous 4th of July if you’re in the U.S. and I have some really fun posts planned for next week about travel and life! Love you all!
