I’ve been going to Knoebels Amusement Park every summer for the past 13 years. We usually go once a year around July 4th. Sometimes we’ve even been twice a year! This park holds so many memories for me. It’s where I went to celebrate my Sweet Sixteen birthday. It’s where I went on my first roller coaster. So I thought I would give you a look into America’s largest free admission amusement park.
The top reasons I love Knoebels include the food, the rides, the shops, the atmosphere and the people! There is truly something there for everyone. There is free parking, free admission. You could walk around the park without spending a dime if you wanted. The rides take tickets, so you spend as you go along. But here are my suggestions for having a great time at Knoebels!
First of all, get there early! The park opens at 11am. Get there early so you can get a picnic area for your group. Bring some picnic food, some chairs and lots of water. It’s so nice to go back to the picnic area and relax after some rides during the day. There is so much shade here and you can leave your things there–no one will bother it!
When you first get to the park and set up your picnic spot, gather up some tickets and head for the rides! Knoebels has so many great wooden roller coasters that have won awards! My all-time favorite is the Phoenix. If you have kids, you can also go to Kiddie Land or enjoy some of the classics like the Ferris Wheel.
After some rides, cool down with some ice cream in the afternoon. The BEST place to get ice cream at Knoebels is the Old Mill. A single scoop only costs $2.50 and it’s a great amount. I tried their flavor, Nittany Paws, which is vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge swirl and peanut butter cups. Skip the Dippin’ Dots or the soft serve ice cream, and go for the good kind at the Old Mill!
After dinner (I suggest Sicilian pizza from the pizza place, but there is also great barbecue and other food around), play some sunset mini golf! The mini golf at Knoebels is so much fun–I got two holes-in-one this time! Some of the holes are challenging, which makes for a good game. And one of the best things is that it’s only $4.50 per person.
Before you leave Knoebels, be sure to grab a couple of snacks to-go. They have an amazing fudge shop, kettle corn and funnel cakes! Nighttime is also a great time to go on the coasters at night. Sometimes there is absolutely no line and you can get off and get right back on!
So, if you’re ever in Pennsylvania, put Knoebels on your to-do list. It’s a place with amazing history. It feels like you’re walking back in time, as you experience the old carousel, the bumper cars and other attractions that have been there for several years. While it was very hot this year, it was great to have lots of shade–something that is hard to find at other amusement parks.
If you have any questions about Knoebels, I feel like I know it like the back of my own hand! It’s become a second home for me during the summertime. It’s a great escape to really soak up some summer fun.
Have you guys been anywhere fun recently?
