While on my vacation to the Outer Banks, my family and I went hiking at a nature perserve in Nags Head. Walking underneath the trees was the perfect complement to being at the beach in the sun. We went to the Nags Head Wood Ecological Preserve and decided to walk some trails.
It just rained, so everything was very green and beautiful. We ended up getting a tad bit lost sort of, walking in circles off the trail. But we eventually found our way back to the path and back around to the entrance.
The nature preserve has several trails. You can hike to the sound which is a couple miles of hiking or you can choose a shorter trail like did. I forgot to wear proper hiking footwear, so we decided to explore quickly in case it decided to rain on us since the week had been pretty rainy.
It was fun to take pictures along the trail. I came across a letter “A” carved in the tree. I liked it, since my last name begins with an “A.”. I love finding lost treasures or little tidbits in the woods. It always seems to make me feel connected with people who were there before me.
Overall, it was fun to get close to a different type of nature while vacationing at the beach. I was a way to relax, cool down and experience new places. I highly suggest finding something outdoorsy to do to take a break from the heat at the beach. The beach can sometimes lack some greenery, so I’m very glad my family jumped at this opportunity!
What kinds of things do you like to do when you’re on vacation? Have you guys been hiking in a while? I have a favorite hiking trail about an hour away from my house that my best friend and I travel to a lot during the summer months. I can’t wait to go again with her to climb some rocks and enjoy nature. But for that time, I’m going to wear some better shoes!
